Activated carbon cabin filter worth the extra cost?
Standard cabin filters are cheap, but I see ones with carbon for odors and pollution. Driving in traffic a lot with diesel fumes and city dust. Does the carbon layer make a noticeable difference, or is it gimmicky?

Carbon (charcoal) layers do help quite a bit- they adsorb gases, VOCs, and smells that plain paper filters miss, like exhaust, cigarette smoke, or farm odors. For heavy traffic or sensitive noses, it's worth it. I switched after getting tired of faint diesel whiff inside. Got an activated carbon one from https://elartcom.eu/categories/cabin-air-filters-25 - they stock both standard and carbon versions for many models, easy to compare. Chose one with multi-layer design (particle + carbon), installed in 5 minutes. Air feels noticeably cleaner now, less irritation in eyes/throat during rush hour, and no stale smell buildup. Lasts about the same as regular (around 15-20k km). If pollution bothers you, go carbon- browse their page for your car, good variety without huge price jump.
