Journeys to the Kingdom: Cambodia Visa for Namibian Citizens and Nepali Citizens

The Ease of the Cambodia eVisa
For both Namibian citizens and Nepali citizens, the Cambodia eVisa system offers the most convenient and highly recommended pathway for obtaining a short-term visa for tourism or business purposes. This electronic visa allows applicants to complete the entire process online, from the comfort of their home, eliminating the need for in-person embassy visits or mailed applications.3 The eVisa is typically issued for a single entry, permitting a stay of up to 30 days within Cambodia.4 It is usually valid for three months (90 days) from the date of issue, providing a flexible window for travelers to plan their entry.
The eVisa application process is user-friendly and involves a few key steps:
Access the Official Website: It is paramount to apply exclusively through the official Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation eVisa website: evisa.gov.kh. Be wary of unofficial or third-party websites that may charge inflated fees or provide invalid visas.
Complete the Online Application Form: Applicants must accurately fill out the online form with all required personal details, including full name, date of birth, nationality, and passport information (passport number, issue and expiry dates).5 Any discrepancies between the information provided and your passport can lead to delays or outright rejection.6
Upload Required Documents:
A clear, high-resolution scanned copy of your passport's bio-data page. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended arrival date in Cambodia and should have at least one blank page for immigration stamps.
A recent, passport-sized digital photograph. This photo should adhere to standard passport photo guidelines, including a plain, light-colored background, full-face visibility, and no shadows.
Secure Online Payment: The standard fee for a tourist eVisa is USD 30, plus an additional processing fee (typically USD 6). Payment is made securely online using a valid credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay, Alipay, or WeChat are commonly accepted).7
Receive Approval: Once your application is processed and approved (which generally takes about 3 business days, although it can vary), the eVisa approval letter will be sent to your registered email address.8 It is strongly advised to print multiple copies of this approval letter and carry them with you, as you will need to present it to immigration officials upon arrival in Cambodia.
The Cambodia eVisa is widely accepted at Cambodia's three international airports (Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, and Sihanoukville International Airport) and several major land border crossings.
Flexibility with Visa on Arrival
For both Namibian citizens and Nepali citizens, a Cambodia Visa on Arrival is also a viable option. This method can be particularly convenient for those with spontaneous travel plans or if there are any unforeseen issues with the eVisa system. Visas on Arrival can be obtained directly at the international airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, as well as at various major land border crossings with Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.9
To acquire a Visa on Arrival:
Prepare Documents: Travelers must have their valid passport (with at least six months' validity remaining beyond their entry date and at least one blank page) and a recent passport-sized photograph. It is prudent to carry a few extra photos.
Complete Forms at Entry Point: Immigration arrival cards and visa application forms will be provided at the airport or border post. These must be accurately filled out.
Pay the Fee in USD Cash: The fee for a tourist visa on arrival is USD 30.10 For a business visa (E-class), it's USD 35.11 It is absolutely essential to have the exact amount in US dollars cash, as facilities for currency exchange or providing change may be limited at some border points.
While Visa on Arrival offers flexibility, it can sometimes lead to longer queues, especially during peak travel seasons, potentially delaying your entry into the country. For a smoother experience, the eVisa is generally recommended.
Important Pre-Travel Requirements and Considerations (Effective July 2024 onwards)
Regardless of the chosen visa application method, all travelers, including Namibian Citizens and Nepali Citizens, must be aware of an important new entry requirement:
Mandatory E-Arrival Card for Air Travelers: As of July 1, 2024, all air travelers entering Cambodia through international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville) are required to complete an electronic arrival card (E-Arrival Card) online within 7 days prior to their arrival.12 This digital card consolidates immigration, health, and customs declarations into a single, convenient online portal.13 It is a mandatory requirement and is separate from your visa. You can complete it via the official website (https://arrival.gov.kh/) or a dedicated mobile app. Even if you have an eVisa or plan to get a Visa on Arrival, you must complete this E-Arrival Card.
Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended date of entry into Cambodia.
Purpose of Visit: Ensure you apply for the correct visa type. A tourist visa (T-class) is strictly for leisure and does not permit any form of employment. For work or extended stays, an ordinary visa (E-class) is required, which can be extended within Cambodia.14
Proof of Funds (Recommended): While not always explicitly demanded for eVisa/on-arrival, immigration officials may inquire about your financial capacity to cover your stay in Cambodia. It's advisable to have bank statements or other proof of funds readily available.
Travel Insurance: Although not a mandatory visa requirement, securing comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended. It provides crucial coverage for unforeseen medical emergencies, travel disruptions, and other incidents.15
Currency: The US Dollar (USD) is widely accepted throughout Cambodia for major transactions, including visa fees, alongside the local Cambodian Riel (KHR).16
By meticulously preparing the necessary documents, understanding the various visa pathways, and adhering to the new E-Arrival Card requirement, both Cambodia Visa for Namibian Citizens and Cambodia Visa for Nepali Citizens can be obtained efficiently. This allows travelers to focus on the excitement of exploring Cambodia's rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes, ensuring a truly unforgettable journey.
